Recap: Navigating Large Language Models (LLM) in Healthcare Webinar

On 25th January 2025, we hosted an insightful and dynamic webinar titled Navigating Large Language Models (LLM) in Healthcare, where we explored the fundamentals, real-world applications, and ethical implications of LLMs in the medical field. Here’s a recap of the key insights from our discussion!

Understanding the Basics of LLMs

We kicked off the session by breaking down the foundation of Large Language Models and their growing impact in healthcare. Key points included:

  • ChatGPT – The AI That’s Changing the Game: A look into how ChatGPT and similar models are transforming industries, especially healthcare.
  • What is Machine Learning (ML) and LLM?: An easy-to-digest explanation of how these models work and why they are different from traditional software.
  • Beyond ChatGPT: Other Powerful LLMs: A glimpse at alternative models like Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and other emerging players in the AI space.

How LLMs Work

To help attendees better understand how AI generates responses, we dived into next-sentence prediction—the fundamental mechanism behind LLMs. This section helped demystify how AI processes language and why it sometimes makes mistakes.

The Power of Prompting

Crafting the right prompts is key to getting high-quality responses from AI. We explored:

  • Introduction to Prompting: Why the way you phrase your query matters.
  • Prompting Techniques: Practical tips, including role-based prompting, structured instructions, and iterative refinement to enhance AI responses.
  • Interactive Prompt Review: A fun and engaging segment where we analyzed participant-submitted prompts and discussed ways to optimize them.

Threats and Ethical Concerns of LLMs in Healthcare

While LLMs offer incredible possibilities, they also come with risks. We addressed:

  • LLM Applications in Healthcare: From aiding medical research to streamlining documentation, we explored how AI is being used in healthcare today.
  • Ethical Concerns & Risks: Discussions on misinformation, bias, data privacy, and the crucial role of human oversight to ensure responsible AI use.

Conclusion

The session wrapped up with a lively Q&A, where participants raised thoughtful questions and shared their perspectives on AI’s role in the future of healthcare. One key takeaway? While LLMs can be powerful tools, critical thinking and ethical considerations must always come first.

A big thank you to everyone who joined and contributed! Stay tuned for our next session as we continue to navigate the evolving landscape of AI in healthcare.
